'The Roermond Carthusians' Foundation
Exhibition - The Carthusians in the Netherlands Nederlands English Deutsch
Stichting

On 26 March 2004, the Roermond Carthusians Foundation was established in Roermond by five people who have a strong affinity with the former Carthusian monastery of Our Lady of Bethlehem in Roermond, its residents, and its history. The Roermond Carthusians Foundation wishes to underscore the crucial significance of the former Carthusian monastery for the town of Roermond and show how the monastery has been a distinguishing feature in its development. Even now, both the site and its buildings have retained their essential importance for the town, serving as the offices of the diocese of Roermond, as a chapel, and as a unique monument.

The Carthusian monastery, therefore, deserves to have its rightful place in the historical and cultural awareness of the town of Roermond and its environs. This is why the Foundation aims to rekindle public awareness of the former monastery, its residents, and its history both within and without the town of Roermond. The Foundation feels this rehabilitation can be achieved by staging cultural events such as exhibitions, by releasing publications relating to the monastery, and by taking charge of the monastery’s artistic and cultural patrimony. The great significance of the Carthusian monastery in Roermond, both past and present, should not be lost.
